FAYDTA Discord — Step by Step

The short version

Discord is a free messaging app — like the Facebook app, but separate and just for our downtown community. The Downtown Alliance uses it to keep downtown businesses, residents, and the board in better touch between meetings.

You don’t have to use it. Email and the website still work. But if you want to ask a quick question, share a flyer, or hear what other neighbors are saying about a corridor issue — that’s what Discord is for.

Brand new to Discord? Here’s the truth.

A lot of our older members have a family member, neighbor, or grandkid set this up for them the first time. That’s the easy way. Once Discord is installed and you’re in the server, day-to-day use is just reading and tapping — no harder than checking Facebook.

Even easier: the DTA board offers in-person help at our monthly meetings. If you mention in advance that you’d like Discord help, a board member will sit with you and your phone for 10 minutes before or after the meeting and walk through every step. See Need help? for how to ask.

The full step-by-step

Plan about 20 minutes the first time. After that, opening Discord and reading a message takes seconds. If you get stuck, that’s normal — Discord is built more for younger users, so older eyes have to hunt for some buttons.

Install Discord and join FAYDTA — Get the app on your phone, accept our invite. Skip if you’re already in the server.
Get around in Discord — Where to tap on a phone to find conversations.
Link your faydta.com account — Connects Discord to your member account so you see the right channels.
Quiet down notifications — Stop Discord from pinging you all day. Do this early.
