Everything you need to know about permits for hosting an event in downtown Fayetteville. This guide covers festivals, block parties, fundraisers, markets, concerts, races, and other public gatherings.

Special Event Application

- Submit the Special Event Application through the E-Development Portal
- City reviews for health, safety, and logistical impacts
- May require coordination with Police, Fire, Engineering, and Traffic Services
- Approval may come with conditions (insurance, security, cleanup plan)
Temporary Use Permit

Street Closure

The process:
- Contact Engineering Division early to discuss feasibility
- City Council adopts a resolution of intent to close the street
- Resolution published in newspaper once per week for 4 consecutive weeks
- Public hearing held — anyone may comment
- Council votes on final approval
What you’ll likely need to provide:
- Event site plan showing closure boundaries
- Traffic detour plan
- Proof of insurance
- Off-duty police for traffic control (see Security Requirements)
Alcohol Permits
Section titled “Alcohol Permits”NC alcohol permits are handled by the state ABC Commission, not the city.
For-Profit Events / Private Parties

What it allows: Bring fortified wine and liquor onto a venue’s premises and serve to guests at a reception, wedding, party, or special occasion.

- Copy of signed lease or rental agreement showing event dates and your name
- Certified criminal background check from county clerk
- Payment: certified check, cashier’s check, money order, or credit card
Nonprofit Fundraiser Events

- Detailed premises diagram showing entrances, exits, bar locations
- 501(c) determination letter or political organization documentation
- Statement of purpose and fund recipient
- Certified criminal background check
- Payment: certified check, cashier’s check, money order, or credit card

What Event Organizers Must Do

- Provide a list of all food vendors participating
- Ensure each vendor has their own Temporary Food Establishment permit
- Coordinate food safety requirements with vendors

Amplified Sound / Noise Permits
